Older People Up to Something (OPUS) and other church members will join forces to march in the La Grange Pet Parade on Saturday, June 5. Walkers are needed for this first-time Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange event, so OPUS members are encouraged to participate as fully as possible. Details regarding a meeting time and place will be posted in the bulletin.
Carol Giles will serve as guest speaker at the OPUS luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9. A public health professional, Giles will address safety issues in the home and community, including safe driving practices. While the menu for the day is a surprise, it is guaranteed to please! Church members are invited to bring friends. A free-will offering will be taken.
A luncheon cruise on Lake Geneva is planned for Tuesday, June 15. The bus will leave from Grace Lutheran at 8:45a.m. and will return at approximately 5 p.m. Some time will be available following the boat cruise to explore Lake Geneva before departing for home. The cost of the trip is $70. Interested parties should call the church office at (708) 352-0730 to see if tickets are still available.
There is still time—barely-- to sign up for the College of DuPage class “Russian Composers I” which begins on Monday, June 7. The class runs from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays beginning June 7 and continuing until August 2 (with no class on July 19). It will explore the works of Russian composers Tchaikovsky, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff and be taught by a classical pianist. The class will cost $154 for those under 65 and $114 for those over 65. Adult Vacation Bible School is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 19, through Thursday, July 22. The theme, “Africa under the Baobab Tree” will be explored through songs, Bible study, fellowship, worship, special speakers – and even African treats! Study will focus on trust, love, follow, care and share. Adults of all ages are invited to attend. If young families register and request a babysitter, OPUS members will provide babysitting. Registration information will be provided in the bulletin.
OPUS members will be attending the 15th Annual Senior Lifestyle Expo at Drury Lane Oakbrook on Wednesday, August 25, and enjoying a 1:30 p.m. performance of the musical comedy “Hot Mikado” while they’re there. The deadline for signing up is Sunday, July 25. Twenty tickets are available at $45 each, including the Expo entry fee, lunch and show. Interested persons should sign up at the Older Adult communication center. A carpool will depart from the church at 9:30 a.m.
OPUS will be attending an intergenerational baseball game, probably the Joliet Jackhammers, later this summer. More information will follow!
OPUS members thank Frank Wills for his informative talk on Tai Chi at the May luncheon. Food purchased from Cida Thai Restaurant in Countryside received rave reviews!
