LOGOS finishes year –
will start again on October 6
During the 2009-2010 school year, 172 members of Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange (81 children and youth and 91 adults) -- came together every Wednesday after school to enjoy and marvel at God’s world through the LOGOS program. The ripple effect of these 172 disciples of Christ will be profound on our congregation as we continue to grow in Grace.
As the LOGOS year closed in April, family members sent in comments about their experiences. A favorite came from Jack Kunkle-- always faithful, but always the pragmatist – who said, “Logos is a way to spend time with our Christian family without having to wake up early on Sunday morning.” Spoken like a true teen!
Mary Klonowski said, “I have been inspired by the insights of the 5th and 6th graders in LOGOS. Caring, searching, questioning and faithful, these kids never cease to amaze me.”
Laura Taylor said, “I love LOGOS. It is a great opportunity for me to stay in contact with the children at church. I think it’s a great program because it’s a time for the kids (and adults) to see how Christ-centered events can be fulfilling, worthwhile, and, most importantly, FUN!!”
Denise Rosicky articulated the benefit to her children as students and to her as a volunteer when she wrote, “Logos is something my family looks forward to each Wednesday. The kids are learning about Christianity in a relaxed and fun atmosphere while building bonds with their church-going friends; and I feel the satisfaction of helping to serve others while at the same time enjoying companionship and friendship.”
LOGOS was a moving experience for many. “LOGOS has made a big difference in my life and the life of my son. Simply put, our faiths are so much stronger for stepping into church two days a week instead of one,” said Kerry Forsythe.
Michelle Huntley shared this experience: “When I was home due to my back problem, I received those Get Well Soon notes from my “table family.” All of the kids at my table wrote really personal things. It made me cry – in the best way.”
“It has been a very special experience, touching the lives of the youngest Logosians. I have enjoyed teaching the children,” said Jean Barbera. “My favorite LOGOS memory...will always be the eagerness of so many of the children to know more about Jesus.”
Elaine Hooven appreciated the way LOGOS built community. “The children attend so many different schools that I feel LOGOS provides them the opportunity to form Christian friendships so that when they see each other on Sunday at church they feel more a part of each other’s lives,” she said.
And perhaps one of the most telling and significant message was contained in a note from Marcy McKay to Janet Kings. She wrote, “I wanted to let you know how much Reed and Alejandra enjoyed their time with you this year. On Wednesday, Reed said, ‘I really liked Logos. I’m sad that we don’t get to go back for a long time. I’m really going to miss Mrs. Kings. I really like her.’ Alejandra piped in, ‘Yah, me too. She’s really nice.’ Then they, along with David, talked about how much fun they had at LOGOS, and Reed and Alejandra talked more about their time with you. Thank you for sharing yourself with them in this way. It really means a lot to me, especially given the fact that we made a move from another church that Jeff and I attended weekly for nine years and felt quite “at home” at. I, however, was not sure the educational component was right for the kids, and what they are experiencing at Grace Lutheran underscores for me that we made the right move for the kids.”
Wednesday, October 6 marks the start of the Fall, 2010 term of LOGOS. An open invitation is extended to all of the congregation to see, feel, hear, smell and taste how the LOGOS Ministry is changing lives at Grace Lutheran. Come to church on October 6.
