Stephen Ministry has been part of life at Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange for 20 years. It is a ministry grounded in Christ’s admonition to “love one another as I have first loved you.” Stephen Ministers listen, accept, care and walk with persons who are going through difficult times. They provide confidential support—prayer, scripture, forgiveness, unconditional acceptance—in appropriate ways to meet the needs of care receivers. They are not counselors or therapists or social workers. They do not run errands, shop, cook, clean or provide transportation. Their role is to care and to listen, to stand by individuals and to minister to their spiritual needs, recognizing that God works through one-on-one relationships to bring hope and healing.
Stephen Ministers ask church members to pray for them, their leaders and their care receivers. They ask that you open yourself to those in need, and open yourself to be ministered to in your times of need.
