Prepare for Fall by Visiting LOGOS Now! - Messenger 4/2010

With school and work and extra-curricular activities pulling families in so many directions, parents often wonder how they and their children will keep up the frenetic pace.

   Staying focused on Jesus and raising children who understand the teachings of the Lord often plays second fiddle to the day-to-day demands of this lifestyle. Parents can help shift the focus from the secular world to one that is more God-centered by making LOGOS part of their lives over another activity.

SPLASH! The Cradle Roll - Messenger 4/2010

The Cradle Roll is the little members of Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange, ages birth through 36 months. They are enrolled in the SPLASH program (published by Augsburg Fortress), beginning at birth, or when baptized or accepted as a new member at Grace Lutheran.

   A monthly four-page pamphlet is sent to the parents of these children. It is appropriate for their age and stage of development and gives parents suggestions for introducing their children to the church and to the love for Jesus. A CD of sing-a-long songs or lullabies is also sent, so the children become familiar with songs of faith from a very early age. This is great preparation for beginning Sunday church school at age 3.

SCS prepares for First Communion - Messenger 4/2010

This Spring, the Third Grade class will be preparing for First Communion (April 25th). A parent informational meeting was held on Sunday, March 7th with Pastor Flessen. First Communion preparation classes will take place on April 11th and 18th with Pastors Flessen and Pastor Said. The First Communion retreat is scheduled for Friday, April 16th.

We have a new book in the library about which people have said, “Everyone should read this book.”

The title is Still Alice, written by Lisa Genova.

   A young psychology professor at Harvard University, she realizes she is becoming very forgetful. Yes, it’s the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s. How she deals with this difficult prognosis is so enlightening and inspirational. Come check it out!

Women’s retreat - April 16 and 17 - Messenger 4/2010

Attention all women of Grace! I want to share with you an opportunity for fellowship and learning for the women of Grace. The Women’s group of Grace is hosting a one-night women’s retreat at the Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center. Along with the Women of Grace, Pastor Susan Gerow and I will be leading worship services and discussing some of the strong and bold Women of the Bible. We will be leaving either 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. on Friday, April 16 and returning around 5:30-6 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.  The cost is $60 per person and $5-10 for dinner on Friday evening. Feel free to invite friends to come along. Come join the Women of Grace as we celebrate the remarkable Women of the Bible!

Women of Grace work to respond to LWF

In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12, Lutheran World Relief has issued a request for more quilts, health kits and layettes.

   A January 19 letter from Lutheran World Relief states that “we got our first shipment of 670 health kits and 1500 layettes on the way. That shipment depleted our stock of health kits – and we know that more will be needed in the coming weeks and months. As the recovery effort begins in earnest, we will also want to send school kits to help displaced children get back on track. By

ICP Training to Support Older Adults - Messenger 4/2010

 Interfaith Community Partners, a faith-based alliance with older adults, is holding a volunteer training from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m., Sunday April 18, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4370 Woodland Ave., Western Springs.

   Anyone interested in serving older adults through visitation, assisted transportation or telephone reassurance is welcome. Lunch served.

Young Families of Grace (YFG) is intergenerational! Events are open to anyone or any family! While some events focus on small children, YFG events are open to ALL, of any age. YFG exists to create unity and fellowship within the entire church!

at 10:30 am sharp! - YFG Easter Egg Hunt.Children should meet in the rear of the sanctuary at 10:20 a.m. to pick up egg collection bags and be divided by age group for the egg hunt! Celebrate our risen King while helping to revive this age-old tradition!
