Launched in September, the Young Families of Grace has already become a living part of Grace Lutheran Church of La Grange.
Sunday Mixers have been a great success. People come solo or with their spouse, depending on their family schedules. Many couples come from varied faith backgrounds. A top goal is to create an open, fun and loving atmosphere where each and every person feels welcome and comfortable. If you’ve considered joining in, but haven’t as yet, YFG is incredibly friendly and relaxed. The goal is to have fun and start the week off right, as well as to find spiritual and family guidance. Drop in while your children are in Sunday School and make some new church acquaintances and friends. YFG Mixer gatherings are held in the Bernard Lounge (2nd floor east) at 10 am on Sunday mornings. Beginning in 2010, Mixers will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month.
The YFG Holiday Mixer is set for Sunday, December 13 at 10 am. This will be a purely informal gathering where we’ll reminisce about holidays and important folks from our past, as well as hopes you have for yourself and your family for 2010. Consider bringing a cherished ornament as a way to share your special memories. Dig up a photo of you and your family from the 1970s or 1980s for a fun contest.
In early 2010, YFG will expand beyond Sunday mornings. To kick things off, hardworking moms will have a chance to share an evening out with other women from church to bond and relax. The event will be held in mid-January, 2010 at a local restaurant.
A couple’s event will be held in late January-early February. Same concept – relax, bond, enjoy yourselves. Watch the bulletin for specific dates, times and places!
YFG will also begin to launch Family Events in 2010 in cooperation with Kerrie Folisi, the Director of Youth and Family Services. Do you have a fond memory of a family church event from years gone by? If so, please tell us about it! Perhaps your idea could turn into a great tradition here at Grace Church. Write it on a yellow pew card or email your memory to yfg@att.net. We would love to hear from you!
Our Faith Journey
Last month’s Mixer on “Spiritual practices in the home” was a great beginning toward ensuring that our children’s spirituality remains a top priority in our lives as parents. Pastor Flessen began this conversation with great insights and drove home the importance of Bible exploration with our kids on a regular basis. The relevance of the internet was also explored as it obviously holds an amazing number of spiritual resources that are overlooked. A YFG Spiritual Resource Handout detailing some great internet finds is available and well worth having. Email YFG Board member, Nikki York, at: nyork78@yahoo.com if you’d like a copy emailed to you.
Pastor Said will be leading a Bible Study of The Lord’s Prayer with YFG during Lent. The dates will be February 21 and 28 and March 14 and 21. This will be a great opportunity for busy parents who are unable to join in a Bible Study otherwise. Mark you calendars!
YFG online
Nikki York will be the new Parenting Resource Coordinator for YFG. She will research and compile useful parenting information that will be available via our forthcoming YFG e-newsletter. It takes a village to raise our children. PLEASE share your great finds/resources with Nikki and YFG. Nikki’s email is nyork78@yahoo.com.
If you haven’t yet heard, YFG is on Facebook. Check us out! Type “young families of grace” in the search box and join in. If you’ve already joined, post your thoughts/comments and gain that unique fellowship with Christian friends. Check out the recently posted photos
from our first Mixer. Questions or comments? Contact our Facebook administrator, Alicia Duell, via the YFG Facebook page.
Most YFG communication is via email. If you’d like to be included in YFG event emails, send a note to: yfg@att.net. You may also write it on a yellow pew card and drop it in the offering plate. YFG emails are sent approximately once to twice a month. Send ideas, questions and comments anytime to: yfg@att.net.
